I just thought I`d post this up to discuss a few facts about Stitch`s death scene at the end of “Lilo & Stitch 2”.
We all know that Stitch`s death scene was very dark and depressing and it could make a lot of adults and kids cry. When I first saw “Lilo & Stitch 2” I somehow didn`t cry at the scene, but still I was really shocked that they killed Stitch off, I mean how could they do such a thing! But on the other hand I loved how they got Lilo to bring him back, it would have been very depressing if he was totally gone (But then again, as “Lilo & Stitch 2” is set before the TV series it would have been a plot hole if he`d have remained dead). It was brilliant to think that although Lilo was too late by the time she placed him in Jumba`s fusion chamber, Stitch seemed to have been revived by Lilo`s love (in accordance to her theory that “Love is more powerful than death”, I suppose this could happen in reality on rare occasions if a person`s love proves to be strong enough).
I believe the producers might have based the scene on the beast`s death scene from the end of “Beauty and the Beast”. If you compare the 2 death scenes together you can see how similar they are. Stitch and the Beast die with both Lilo and Belle crying beside them, revealing how much they love them, and then they both come back to life. Come to think of it Lilo and Stitch are Beauty and Beast-like themselves.
Another thing I would like to discuss about Stitch`s death scene, there have been rumours that the reason the scene was made so dark because Dakota Fanning was voicing Lilo instead of Daveigh Chase. These rumours are quite possible since if you notice when Dakota Fanning does Lilo`s sad self, her sadness is quite a reactive way, while Daveigh Chase`s sad Lilo is more quiet and withdrawn. It`s likely the producers took advantage of Fanning`s skills.
So therefore if Daveigh Chase had voiced Lilo, Stitch`s death scene may not have been so dark. I believe that Lilo would have just managed to get Stitch in the fusion chamber in time, and perhaps at first it would have seemed as if she was too late, but only... Jumba does not confirm it; he just leaves Stitch in the fusion chamber and tells the rest of the ohana that their only hope is to pray for a miracle. So then the scene goes silent for a few minutes as the ohana surround the fusion chamber, praying for Stitch. And then... just as everybody are beginning to give up hope... Stitch`s molecules slowly start re-charging and Stitch gradually re-gains his life.
Further-more it`s never been fully explained why Daveigh Chase didn`t re-prise her role for L&S 2, but I heard that the reason was because she was so busy voicing Lilo in “Lilo & Stitch: the series”, so therefore she hired Dakota Fanning to take her place (it has been revealed that Chase and Fanning are best friends). But strangely everybody ells who where needed re-prised their roles and yet they too were working on the TV series at the same time, so I find it very confusing to why Daveigh Chase couldn`t re-prise her role. But who knows? And goodness knows how different Stitch`s death scene would have turned out.
Well that`s about it for now, if anybody has any other opinions on my thoughts then feel free to post them up.
